Organized in 1848 in the village of Osborn, St, Mark’s now located in the heart of downtown Fairborn, has a long and storied history of quality worship and faithful service to Fairborn and the surrounding area. The congregation relocated during the great migration of Osborn from its previous location, to its present location in Historic Downtown Fairborn following the great Dayton Flood of 1913.
The current building is a beautiful structure of Tudor-Gothic Architecture, designed by Architect Robert Gotwald of Springfield. It was dedicated in 1924.
The stained-glass windows are the most predominate and admired feature. Made by The Von Gerichten Art Glass Company of Munich, Germany, the panels bear symbols representing the Lutheran and Christian traditions,
After 175 years, the St Mark’s voted to close on June 28, 2020. The building was managed by Lutheran Saints in Ministry (LSIM), a collaboration of 5 Lutheran congregations in four counties, for an additional 2 years, but on June 30, 2022, the building was donated to Emanuel Ministries, a predominantly African American congregation that continues to work with LSIM to provide a feeding site, family outreach and service to the Fairborn area.
